Our History

Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church began over 100 years ago when Swedish immegrants, whose faith was Lutheran, settled east of Foley in Ronneby. In 1903 worship began with the help of a seminary student, meeting twice per month.

At the annual meeting in 1905, this fledgling group became part of the Minnesota Conference of the former Augustana Synod. The conference assisted the group in many ways including a $100 contribution to help with the pastor's pay. The congregation was legally organized on January 6th, 1906, and completed its first building in Ronneby two years later. By 1920 some services were already being held in english. In 1921 land was purchased north of Ronneby to form Riverside Lutheran Cemetery.

The present church building was erected in 1953 and dedicated in 1954. In 1963 a new parsonage was built and an education wing was added in 1971. In 2000 the church was made handicapped accessible when a new, main level fellowship hall and kitchen were added along with new offices and an elevator. Additional parking space was added shortly afterward when the parsonage was sold and moved from the property.
